Benjamin, Stephane and I had a side conversation about lists and
unison-users has lot of people.  I am expecting a few of "what do people
think about merging this PR", as well as discussing the new
serialization format, stopping support for very old ocaml, etc.  So the
concept is to have that here, following the original/documented intent.
