The professorship is embedded in a unique interdisciplinary environment 
of experimental and theoretical physics, computer science and 
mathematics. Innsbruck is an internationally recognised leading hub in 
quantum computing. Ground breaking results have orginated here; 
exemplary, the theoretical conception and subsequent experimental 
validation of quantum computing based on ion traps.

The close proximity to the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum 
Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (IQOQI), to the national
Cluster of Excellence Quantum Science Austria (quantA) and successful 
spin-offs such as Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT) and Parity Quantum
