Or Israel. Not only that no one has ever called on prohibiting Israeli
scientists from participating in conferences (fortunately), but
conferences have also been held in Israel, which is a poor call and
unacceptable to me. (For instance, would participants of Arab descent
feel safe and welcome? I don't think so... Personally I don't really
want to go there either.)
It is wrong to ban people from participating in a *scientific*
conference based on their nationality, affiliation or political views.
It's especially wrong to prevent their attendance because they *fail to
express support for a certain view*, as some people have dangerously
suggested in this thread.
But we should nevertheless adopt an equal standard of scrutiny in all
cases, and when that's not possible, at least make the rationale (to
why equal standards could not be maintained) known.
